Backcountry Wildlife Monitoring is hiring Part time/ Full time Wildlife Monitors for work within B.C. and Alberta. This is a chance to become part of one of the largest Wildlife Monitoring companies in Western Canada. This position is seasonal with work commencing in April and finishing approximately the end of November.
The Wildlife Monitor’s role is to protect crews from the risk of dangerous wildlife encounters through hazard assessments and prevention. You must be in good physical condition and able to walk long distances while carrying equipment. The applicant must be able to work independently in high stress situations. Preference will be given to applicants that have wilderness experience in remote settings. (ex. Hunters, Guides, trappers).
Accommodations and meals provided by employer either in a camp setting or a hotel and LOA provided where applicable. Travel will be required.
Requirements:
- Canadian Citizen or legally allowed to work in Canada
- Must have strong written and verbal communication
- Valid BC drivers licence class 5 or better (or equivalent)
- Clean drivers abstract no more than 14 days old
- Standard First Aid Level 1 or Equivalent
- Possession and Acquisition licence (PAL)
- Training certificate from Canadian Firearms Safety Training
- Bear Aware
- WHMIS
- Pipeline Construction Safety Training
- 4X4 with applicable safety equipment KM rate compensation
- Must be mentally and physically fit for working in a wilderness setting for extended periods of time in adverse environmental conditions.
Pre-Hire:
- Clean Criminal Record Check
- Negative Drug and Alcohol Testing
- Completion of the CGL approved Wildlife Monitor Course within 2 years
- Firearms Inspection Report
Upon hire:
- Online and in person orientation courses required.

Responsibilities
- Conduct regular inspections and assessments of wildlife areas, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of wildlife observations and equipment usage.
- Collaborate with team members to implement conservation strategies and communicate findings.
- Ensure all safety certifications, including First Aid and WHMIS, are up to date and adhered to during operations.

Pay: Remuneration is depending on experience and job duties.
