Wildlife Safety Training

Backcountry Wildlife Monitoring Ltd. is a leader in wildlife safety training for remote field workers. This course is designed to provide an introduction to wildlife commonly found in Northern British Columbia and to provide students with the knowledge to appropriately protect themselves in the field.

Wildlife Safety Training for Workers
This course is 3 hours in a classroom setting and uses a combination of lecture, PowerPoint presentation, student manual and class discussion.

Live Bear Pepper Spray Course
Class will be outdoors and 1 to 2 hours depending on class size.  This course includes an outdoor component where each student will deploy inert pepper spray on a 3 dimensional bear target.

In this course you will learn:

  • Wildlife as a hazard
  • Dangerous wildlife
  • Differences between Grizzly Bear and Black Bears
  • Bear encounters – assessing the situation
  • Ways to deal with bear attacks
  • Use of bear spray
  • Bear incident prevention
  • Cougar protection techniques
  • Elk protection techniques
  • Moose protection techniques
  • Ticks—how to prevent and how to remove, when to seek aid

Certification is valid for 1 year upon successful completion.

Maximum 30 students per course, minimum 15. Payment terms are net 30 days.
Classroom rental: Cost plus 10%
